Forever Lost
part 2
I lost my love, my life that night-~Last Kiss~
Windrunner stared through the fire, letting the warmth spread over his pale skin. His eyes were closed and his hands layed across his knees which were folded underneath him. He heard someone approach him from behind. "Come on Windrunner, this isn't time to dose off," spoke a high pitched masculine voice belonging to his companion, Dram. What Dram didn't see was that Windrunner wasn't sleeping but was crying. However, the warrior kept up the charade by lifting his head slightly as though just being aroused from his "deep slumber."
"Sorry," Windrunner said groggily.
Dram sat down next to Windrunner and looked at him then spoke in a low whisper, "Are we gonna die now, Windrunner? I mean, I know you can't because your little special thingy or whatever, but am I going to?"
Windrunner sighed slightly weary from the night's vigil and spoke in the same low whisper Dram had used. "I dunno Dram, this seems like a pretty desolate situation. With our friends leaving us behind we don't stand much of a chance against the Necrocircle." Dram shifted his weight and looked up toward the stars. They sat there for many minutes like that, Dram looking into the night's cold sky and Windrunner looking into warm yet lonely fire. Around them slept theirenemies, the ones Windrunner and two of his friends had agreed to stay and protect despite what had those men had done to them. Dram finally sighed and stood up. "I'm gonna go check the forest again." Windrunner nodded and continued staring into the fire mulling over what Dram had said to him. Death. Dram was right. Windrunner couldn't die. Not by any means at all really. Except maybe willingly. But that could condemn him to hell.
There was one other possibilty but he hadn't seen him in over 40 years. The memory brought up fresh pain into his soul and he started crying again.
He slammed his fist into his ground taking his anger and frutration on the earth below him. It wasn't fair. He had been happy with him. He had been happier with him than any other time in his life. And because of their bloodlines they were forced to become bitter enemies.
The whole reason he stayed behind while his friends traveled on was in hopes of meeting his lost beloved again. In mere hope that maybe he could finally end this eternity of misery and pain once and for all. And now they didn't even have the decency to show up.
Windrunner laughed at that through the tears. He was angry, angry because the bad guys didn't show up. Because the bad guys actually didn't want to fight. He laughed at his own idiocy. His laughter quickly turned to angry tears and finally he fell asleep. Dram watched him from afar, feeling pity for the tortured soul.
They were young again. Windrunner walked into the inn with Elric, arm in arm. The two boys had just finished killing off a few ogres that had been troubling the merchants and farmers and felt like celebrating. Windrunner and Elric sat down at one of the few remaining tables, gazing at the crowded inn. Finally, a young waitress approached them. They ordered themselves a glass of wine each and sat there smiling at each other.
Several people in the inn noticed the two boys admiring each other and exchanged curious looks. Elric was the first to turn away, looking around him, realizing the eyes of the patrons on him. "Um so, what should we do now?" Elric asked, the nervousness in his voice getting a few chuckles from the patrons.
Windrunner shrugged and spoke. "I dunno. Right now I'm up for getting drunk and going upstairs, though." Elric blushed as he noticed that several patrons nodded and turned back to their conversations, having gotten the information they wanted.
"Um yes, I guess we could do that. But why do we have to get drunk?"
Windrunner smiled brightly. "I dunno, because it feels like the right thing to do."
Elric sat there in silent contemplation for several minutes and gave up on figuring out Windrunner's thoughts when the waitress returned with a bottle of wine and two glasses. Several minutes later Windrunner grinned like a Cheshire cat and fell promptly out of his seat onto the hardwood floor. Elric fell to the floor next to him and looked at him and spoke.
"Are you alright?"
Windrunner laughed and answered him, his voices becoming one long word.
"Ofcourseishfine, Iwashtryintoshtandup."
Elric smiled faintly. "Oh, well why didn't you say something, silly?"
Elric used the table to stand up himself and after several unsuccessful tries managed to get his friend up as well. They leaned heavily against each other as they creeped up the stairs. A few people stood in the halls looking at the two boys in silent amusement. How often would one get to see two gorgeous boys all over each other blaringly drunk?
They finally made it to their room and despite Windrunner's costant purring noises into Elric's ears, he managed to find his key and opened the door. As soon as they entered the room, Windrunner slipped off his tunic and collapsed onto the bed. Elric smiled faintly and joined him there, also slipping off his tunic.
Windrunner layed there a long time before speaking. "Elric, what are we gonna do? I mean, I love you and you love me, right?" Elric nodded.
"So how we supposed to get together? I mean, whoever heard of two boys marrying each other? I know I haven't, but surely we can't be the only ones."
Elric shrugged and sighed. "I dunno, my love. I know we can eventually, we just have to wait. Until then, we can just be happy."
Windrunner nodded sleepily.
The dream faded quickly into blackness but slowly another scene formed. Windrunner sat on a large rock, peering over the hill. Elric stood behind him, packing up their gear they had used for dinner. The light was fading slowly from the sky but gave just enough for Windrunner to see the next town through the spyglass. Windrunner shut the spyglass and put it away in his tunic. "I think if we hurry, we can make it to Antasha before they closethe gates." Windrunner frowned as he didn't hear Elric respond and looked over his shoulder to see why Elric was suddenly silent.
Windrunner spun around, nearly falling off the rock as he saw a large black-winged shadow land beside Elric. Elric stood there in horror, unable to speak anything at all as the thing landed next to him. Windrunner felt something land next to him and turned his head to see a tall white-winged man standing next to him.
Windrunner stood in awe as the Dark Winged Shadow spoke. "I claim this man as mine. He is my blood and is therefore under my control."
Windrunner felt heat flush his face as anger set in him. "Now hold on a minute, Elric is my.." However, Windrunner's words were cut short by the white-winged man.
"Fine then, I claim this young man as mine for he is of my blood and therefore under my control."
Elric and Windrunner shared angry looks at their two possesors. Elric spoke first. "Now hold on a minute, who are either of you to say who owns who? And what do you mean we are of YOUR blood? I do not know you! I am not something you can claim."
Windrunner nodded and spoke angrily. "Listen, if this is some sick game I'd prefer if you'd leave us two out of it!"
The white-winged spoke obviously surprised at the young man insolence.
"Why, young man, you are an Angel, one of the chosen to guard the light of good and holiness and he-" The White winged man pointed to Elric, "-represents evil and chaos. He is our enemy."
Windrunner choked. "ENEMY? But I love him. How can he be my enemy? And since when did I become an Angel, huh? Where's my wings then and my halo, too?"
The White-Winged man looked sad for a moment. "But you are. You have wings if you ever thought to use them and the halo is merely a myth. I'm sorry but this is the way it must be. I will give you one night to be with this man if you truly love him, but after that your path will be set. I am sorry."
The white-winged man left and the dark winged shadow glared at him as he disappeared. "As for you, my young friend, I too will give you one night but only because it will cause this young man even more grief in the future.
But however, after that one night, you will do my bidding and claim your heritage as a demon." With that, the dark-winged shadow left, leaving a very angry and confused Elric who turned to Windrunner.
"What was that about?"
Windrunner scowled. "I don't know. Probably some mages having fun at our expense. God, me an Angel? What does he think I am, an idiot?"
Elric sighed and nodded. "You're probably right. Well, because of that stupid display we probably won't make it to the gate on time. Why don't we just set our stuff up here again and we'll continue in the morning."
Windrunner glanced once more toward the city, squinting at it in the nearly non-existing light. "Yeah, I think you're right. Let's set up camp and go to bed."
The dream shifted again, this time light pouring.
Windrunner franitcally checked the nearby forest. "Elric!! Where are you?!" Windrunner fell to the ground, pounding his fist into the dirt.
Damnit. Elric was gone. He had been when he woke up in the morning. He yelled at the gods for a long time before folding up the remainder of his belongings and heading off to the capital city, tear stains on his cheeks.
His heart was lost. He had nowhere to go and no one to trust. His whole life had be given away on the whim of the gods. No, on the whim of the darkness. It surely would have been different if the winged-man had his way. He said he was sorry. The winged-man was right. However, if he could destroy that evil then maybe, just maybe, he could get Elric back. He hoped.
Windrunner woke with a start. People were screaming. Windrunner leapt up and unsheathed his longsword. He saw instant carnage, people dying left and right, the earth scorched all over the place. He saw knots of people fighting everywhere. He spotted Dram and his other companion fighting some man who seemed to control the fire and ice itself. He watched in horror as Dram's body stood frozen from the ice that had penetrated his very core. Dram's body fell and shattered like fragile glass. Windrunner's mind broke. His friend. His one trusted companion now gone. He charged the man, not aware of bodies underneath his feet, nor of anything else. All he could feel was pain. Solid pain. He almost reached the horrible man when seemingly out of thin air another person intervened. Windrunner raised his blade to strike the man down when he realized who it was. Windrunner fell to the ground staring up the at the figure. He was different. He wore a long black coat that seemed to made out of leather.
But the face was the same. Elric's sighed and picked up the body and dissappeared.
