Forever Lost

Elric walked into his study, the black velvet thumping lightly on the floor. He walked over to his desk and sat down, discarding his heavy black leather duster that was his trademark. He pulled open one drawer and retrieved a small crystal globe. He set it on the desk and stared into it. What subject was he to study this time. It was rare when Gateway gave him time off to do this, so when he had the chance there was usually a thousand things he could check on. However, he decided to choose a subject he had puprosely ignored since his initiation into the Necrocircle. He sat there a few minutes staring into the crystal ball and the image of a dark-haired man wearing a white tunic and the holy symbol of Lit appeared. He was with many other people including a several others he had been involved with.
"Awww...my dearest Windrunner, you travel again. How long has it been for us?"

Elric sat down on a fallen log off the side of the path. Windrunner sat down next to him.
"Whew, that was some hike, eh?" Windrunner nodded and pulled out his iron rations for the day.
"Yeah your not kidding, I'm famished." Elric wiped the sweat from his forehead and pulled an apple from his pack. They both ate silently for a few moments before Windrunner broke that silence.
"So, what are we gonna do once we reach Keno, Elric?" He offered awkwardly. Elric took a bite of his apple and paused in mid-chew in thought. He then swallowed and shrugged.
"I figure we'll go to one of the taverns and get a job. I'm sure someone's willing to hire to swords for a venture or two." Windrunner nodded thoughtfully.
"I suppose. I heard the king was hiring, maybe we could sign up with him." Elric shrugged again.
"Maybe..." They finished their meal in silence and Windrunner stood up.
"You know, I think there's a lake up here somewhere. I'm gonna go see about cleaning up, ok?" Elric nodded
"Sure go ahead. I'll pack our stuff up while you do it." Windrunner nodded and headed off toward the forest leaving Elric looking after him. Elric shook his head slightly and smiled. Elric finished before Windrunner got back and went to find him. He found Windrunner standing in a picturesque waterfall. The water dripped off the young boy in driblets completing the image. Elric started to turn back but, somethiong about Windrunner's physique kept his eyes pinned to the well-built, tanned form.
Windrunner opened his eyes and smiled at Elric.
"Come on in, the water's great." Elric blinked and stood there for a second. "Come on Elric, quit standing there like a ogre and get in here.
There's no reason for one of us to be clean and the other not to be unless you like smelling like mud and goblin's blood." Elric regained his senses enough to remove his tunic and pants before slipping into the cool water.
It was a short swim to the waterfall were Windrunner stood. Elric a couple of times had to catch himself before he started drowned. Elric finally reached the small platform of rocks and climbed up them to stand next alarmingly close to Windrunner.
"See what did I tell ya, isn't it great?" Elric nodded slightly. "Hey, what's wrong partner, you act like you saw a whole tribe of trolls or soemthing." Elric let out a deep breath.
"Windrunner, how long have you and me been partners?" Windrunner looked thoughtful.
"Hn. I dunno, four or five years. Why?" Elric frowned trying to figure out exactly what to say and decided on the direct approach.
"Windrunner, I know we've been friends a long time, but I want to, well, be more. I want us to be lovers." Elric shirked away expecting the worse. Elric glanced over at Windrunner expecting him to be angry or hurt or upset but was shocked to see an almost dreamy half-smile expression cross
Windrunner face.
"I was wondering when you were gonna ask that." Elric blinked. "You mean, you've...the entire...but..why didn't.." Elric face twisted in frustration as he grabbed Windrunner and tossed him promptly into the pool. When Windrunner didn't resurface he began to worry. The he felt something yank hard on his ankle and he fell into the pool face first, He resurfaced moments later to see Windrunner pointing and laughing.

"Serves you right." Elric grinned and swam over to Wndrunner.
"Oh really?" Windrunner nodded and his face held a cheesy grin.

"Yep, you shouldn't have pushed me into that pool." Elric stuck out his tongue and turned his head childishly while splashing at Windrunner.
"Hey don't stick it out, unless you plan to use it." Elric looked at Windrunner, once again completely shocked only to feel warm wet lips upon his own. Elric blinked then returned the kiss, all his hidden passion released in this one single moment. Windrunner pulled away first a triumphant smile on his face.
"come on, we can't fool around here all day if we're gonna reach Keno by nightfall." Windrunner playfully splashed Elric and headed toward the shore. Elric floated there a moment, a heavenly and content smile crossed his lips before he too headed back for shore.

Elric blinked realizing the crystal globe had been showing him the event in detail. He sighed and put the crystal ball back into the drawer but not closing it. How long indeed. It had been forty years since either of them had travelled with the other. yet they looked just as they had then. Elric's demon heritage keeping him young, while Windrunner's angel heritage doing the same. Elric laughed bitterly. The same force that denied them age also denied him the one thing he wanted most, love. Elric sighed again, his chest shuddering and he wept.

Danyellia entered Elric's study quietly hearing Elric inside, her face drawn in concern.
"Anything I can do for you, sir?" Elric breathed deeply and nodded.
"Yes give this message to Gateway, I wam to be included oon the attack against the Black Company. Tell him I have personal interest there."
Danyellia nodded and left Elric in the study. Elric slipped on the duster and headed for the door, giving the crystal ball one final glance.
"I can only hope, my dearest Windrunner, that you can forgive me in the end. You hold my heart, and you always have."
